Every kind of notification has its own switch.
You → Notifications lists every kind of event, from messages and offers to sales, quotes, followers and Trade Rank, with a switch for email against each.
Emails about your own account and your own sales are part of the service. "Tips and news" is the only marketing email and it is off unless you turn it on.
Push notifications are greyed out until the apps are in the stores. Nothing is lost in the meantime; it all still appears under the bell.
